Cleaning out the closet has always been a pain in the rear. It doesn’t have to be though and with a little help from closet organizers you could be on your way to organizing freedom. First you need to decide on the right closet system. Wire organizers are the easiest option and the cheapest. They can be installed by you in a relatively short period of time. Wire closet systems are highly versatile allowing you the option of a host of wire accessories readily available to help you achieve total closet organization.
MEASURE
Grab a measuring tape and measure height and width (front to back) of your empty closet to determine what size organizer you need. Write the measurements down and take them to your local home improvement store, Lowe’s or Home Depot.
PURGE
Take the empty items and segregate them into like items as well as bulky or smaller items. For example, shoes, accessories, sweaters all get their own pile. This is a great time to get rid of any clothing you no longer wear or have no intention of wearing. Yes ladies this means items with tags still on it. My motto is “if I havent worn it in a year then it’s time to clear.”
TAKE INVENTORY
Take inventory of what you have the most of such as shoes, hanging items, accessories and so forth. If you have a ton of shoes then buy a closet organizer that has a large shoe dedication. Or perhaps purchase a separate shoe organizer to accommodate your healthy shoe collection. NOTE:I recommend a hanging shoe organizer for smaller walk in closets. These are great for hanging on the back of the closet door and out of the way. If you have a lot of folded items then make sure your wire closet organizer has adequate shelving and racks designed to handle these items.
WRITE THAT DOWN
Take notes of everything you have and need before going shopping otherwise you will not only buy the wrong thing but you will spend too much on hardware you don’t need.
GO SHOPPING
Head to your nearest shopping center and find the right wire system to complement you needs and wants. Ask a store employee to help you if you are struggling with what to get. However, you can also shop from the comfort of your own home. ClosetMaid and Rubbermaid online have interactive closet design tools that will allow you to put in your closet’s dimensions and create your own custom wire closet system.
DURABILITY
The strength of the wire organizer you choose is very important. There are different ratings on each system so it is imperative you choose an appropriate setup. Some of the wire closet shelves and brackets are stronger than others and depending on the braces that you use as well as how many braces you use will depend on how much stuff you will be able to place on each of the wire closet shelving.
EASY TO CLEAN
Many of the home wire closet organizers made by ClosetMaid and Rubbermaid will have a white plastic coating around the wire to help with cleaning. Some of them will be available in a chrome finish and this can be a bit more money than the plastic coating but is a better looking setup in the home.
The flexibility that you get with creating your own space as well as the different colors that are available will make your closet space just what you want. You will be able to incorporate the bedroom space or bathroom space with the closet space by matching colors and styles within the both areas. Once the wire closet system organizer is installed, you will then be able to keep everything neat and organized whether it is a closet for your clothes or a closet for towels and such in your bathroom.

HOW TO INSTALL YOUR WIRE CLOSET ORGANIZER
We all have a messy closet from time to time but with a little planning and know how you can transform your once cluttered kingdom into an organized therapeutic domain. Wire closet organizers can be the answer to this problem. Not only are they cost effective but easy to install. Here are some steps to get your wire organizer properly installed.
STEP 1. OUT WITH THE OLD
The first order of business in closet organization is to rid of the excess. We all have items we need to get rid of such as old worn out clothes, out of date items, and things that just don’t fit us anymore. Donate these to your favorite organization such as Goodwill or have a yard sale. Also get rid of old closet rods, shelving and storage items so you can start off with a cleaned out empty closet.
STEP 2. REPAIR
Now is a good time to repair holes left from old shelving and closet rods. This can be achieved by using spackle or joint compound and a putty knife. Let it dry (usually couple of hrs) then sand it smooth. Now your ready to put some paint on it and while your at it do the whole closet so you have a fresh looking environment.
STEP 3. MEASUREMENTS
Now your ready to meausure the closet space starting with the top of the closet. Measure 2 to 6 inches from the top of the ceiling depending on how much room you want for shelf storage. Use a level and mark a level line where you plan to mount the hanging tracks – hold the tracks against the wall and mark it for drilling purposes.
STEP 4. HANG THE TRACKS
After you put your drill marks in the wall use them to hang the tracks. Most often you will space them out 24 inches apart but if you have very heavy storage cubes or boxes then space them closer together for a sturdier mount.
STEP 5. INSTALL CLOSET SHELVING
Start installing closet shelves from the bottom up allowing the appropriate space from the floor to the first shelf. You will want enough space under that first shelf for either storage boxes or whatever storage needs you require. Then space the rest of the shelving in set increments so they look uniform but also allow for enough of your wardrobe storage needs.
STEP 6. CLOSET ROD & EXTRAS
Once you have the shelving up put the finishing touches on your closet hardware by snapping in the shelves to their supports. A closet rod is essential for hanging items as well as some hooks or racks for accessories such as ties, belts and scarves or purses. NOTE: (If you purchase a closet shelving system from ClosetMaid or Rubbermaid then you may not need a closet rod as the shelving also will have hanging bars included).
